Day 158: June 6th - Missoula, Montana

Partly sunny, cool and calm

After about 6 hours in the air, we are finally down on terra firma in Big Sky Country.  We arrived and got settled in at around 5:30 PM and are getting ready to head out to dinner with other members of our party who also chose to arrive a day early for our tour with “Field Guides”.  Flying over the Rockies is always a treat and the skies remained relatively clear for a couple of shots between the high cumulous clouds.  Even through the plane windows, the camera catches the majesty of this topographical wonder.

The Rocky Mountains
As we flew into our layover stop at Salt Lake City, we had great views of the mountains surrounding the intermontane plain and the lush green valley on which Missoula lies.

Leaving Salt Lake City, we passed over the Great Salt Lake for which the city is obviously named.  Again, everything out here is on a grander scale and takes your breath away.

Tomorrow, we will meet up with the rest of the group later in the day. Earlier in the day, we plan to walk around and see if we find any new "city birds" to check off on the trip list.  Then, on Friday, It's off to Yellowstone and the trip begins in earnest.  Can't wait to share our journey with you!
