Day 291: October 17th - Hawks in autumn

Sunny, cool, and a light se wind

A brief entry as a picture is worth a thousand words.  It’s fall on Bear Mountain and that means HawkWatch.  We’ve had a number of blog entries on this magical place already this year, but today’s shot sums up what a beautiful and majestic place the mountain is.  This same scene is played out on hundreds of mountain tops across the eastern U.S. as the hawks migrate southward.  Today’s shot is of the main species moving across the mountain today, the Red-tailed hawk.  This photo is special for Sharon and I as we head west tomorrow to California on our first leg of our journey to Australia and New Zealand. Come along and enjoy the adventure with us!  For now, let’s enjoy autumn in New York.
